Welcome Parents and Students to the Gallery of Links page!

Here you will find websites I feel are appropriate for student learning as well as parent information in the bottom link.

Top 5 Links

In this section, you will find the Top 5 websites we either use in the classroom or I highly recommend for at home learning.

Raz-Kids

Raz-Kids is an online reading program we will be using this year. This program allows your child to work through listening to, independent reading and quiz taking skills at his/her level. Your child will be set up with a login as this is a login only site.

i-Ready

i-Ready is a reading and math program we will also be using this year. This program starts by doing a diagnostic test and figuring out where to begin assisting your child with reading and math. There will be lessons your child can work through at his/her own pace. Your child will be set up with a login as this is a login only site.

Starfall

This is a fun website with reading and math activities. Students can work from letter sounds to independent reading skills. There are also fun math games designed to increase addition, subtraction, and many more important math skills. No login is required but some features are only available with a membership.

Little Bird Tales

Little Bird Tales is a digital storytelling website. Students will be able to create their own story by adding text, images, and narration. This is a great way to increase writing engagement levels and a great way to publish written work.  Your child will be set up with a login as this is a login only site.

Spelling City

This website is designed to help your child with the spelling words I will be asking them to work on throughout the year. Have your child start on list 1. As your child gets comfortable with the words in that list, have them move up to the other lists in order. Each child has an individual list but the words can be found in each of the lists I set up.

In this section, you will find additional websites I feel are appropriate for student learning as well as a parent information link at the bottom.

Brain POP Jr.

Brain POP is a great website for Kindergarten through twelfth grade. However, Brain POP Jr. is geared specifically for Kindergarten through third grade. There are activities for all subjects from reading, writing, math, science, social studies, health, art and technology.

FunBrain

FunBrain is a game based website with lots of options to practice reading and math skills. Games can be selected by grade to ensure the most age appropriate games.

Hoodamath

This site is for the math lovers. Everything you could do with math, you can do here. This site has grade specific games for age appropriate learning.

Branch District Library

This is the website to our local library. Not only can you search to find a book in their catalog but they offer many other services. My favorite option is the link to TumbleBooks. TumbleBooks offers online eBooks. Students can go to this site and listen to many different books for free.

IXL

This site is full of activities for reading and math. When you click on a grade level, it will show you all the standards for math or reading. For each standard, there are practice activities. There are only practice activities for math in the first grade list but very helpful.

Expectations for First Grade

Your child will learn a lot while in first grade. Since the standards can be quite confusing to understand, I have included a link to The Council for Great City Schools website where you can find roapmaps for both English Language Arts and Mathematics. Hopefully these links will help you have a good roadmap for what you can expect for your child this year.
